Worst makeover show I ever watched

Plastic surgery is not (yet) that big in Hong Kong but the saturation of slimming centres ("No surgery! No medication! No exercise! Lose 15 lbs in 3 weeks!") has been pushing some of these more enterprising blood suckers towards that direction.

The highest profile of them all is a company called "Be a Lady" (變靚D), which has been sponsoring a show that airs late at night. It documents the journey of previously ugly people in their becoming physically more attractive. Dental work, liposuction, nose jobs, eye lid suturing, make over by top stylists and voila! You are (supposedly)transformed!

Last night's show featured an ex-nobody "actress" called Irene, who had lost her good looks and confidence in an accident a few years ago, and with the help of "Be a lady" and surgery in Thailand, tried to regain all that.

She was no Maggie Cheung to begin with, and after all that work on her, she looked even uglier than before.

They made all her friends and relatives attend the unveiling of the new Irene in the studio, and they all had to clap whilst she swirl around trying to look as if she's just been crowned Miss Hong Kong.

This sad piece of TV crap first made me cringe and then made me cry.

Times like these, only Tindersticks will do. Amen.
